Catholic bishops from Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean have issued a historic joint appeal urging urgent and just implementation of the Paris Agreement ahead of COP30.

Observers called it a "glimmer of hope" after countries could not agree on the agenda for the meeting in Bonn.

In a bid to close the US$1.3 trillion climate finance gap without adding to global debt burden, governments from Asia, Africa and Europe are joining forces to issue shared guardrails for the corporate use of offsets by COP30.

Chinese companies Sinopec, CNOOC, CNPC were among the nine big oil firms who took part in the 17 June auction of oil blocks that sit at the mouth of the Amazon River, revealed environmental non-profit Urgewald. NGO Arayara has filed five lawsuits against the public sale.
